David Luiz foi finalmente apresentado esta sexta-feira no Chelsea, depois de ter efectuado a estreia na passada semana na derrota frente ao Liverpool em Stamford Bridge.

Na sua apresentação oficial no clube inglês, o antigo número 23 do Benfica demonstrou estar muito feliz nos «blues», garantindo que se está a adaptar da melhor forma à nova fase da sua vida em Inglaterra.

«Estou muito feliz por estar aqui, estou-me a adaptar bem, toda a gente me fez sentir em casa. Estou ansioso por ser jogador do Chelsea», disse, acrescentando que se sente útil por poder ajudar a conquistar os objectivos da equipa, seja em que posição for».

O defesa central brasileiro estreou-se, no sábado passado, frente ao Liverpool, jogando 20 minutos. Uma partida um tanto ou quanto «agridoce», fruto do Chelsea ter perdido em casa por 1-0, que também marcou a estreia do espanhol Fernando Torres frente à sua antiga equipa, o que de certa forma ofuscou o primeiro jogo do antigo defesa do Benfica.

«Normalmente os avançados têm sempre mais protagonismo, porque trazem a alegria ao jogo, são eles que fazem os golos», disse, fazendo alusão ao facto de a sua estreia ter coincidido com o primeiro jogo de Torres em Stamford Bridge.

O objectivo de David Luiz é no entanto, ajudar o seu novo grupo de trabalho «a conquistar os seus objectivos e a atingir o sucesso no Chelsea».

Sobre o seu desempenho, assim como o resultado da sua estreia, derrota por 0-1 com os «reds», o brasileiro não deixou de demonstrar a sua tristeza por não ter conseguido vencer no primeiro jogo com a camisola azul do Chelsea.

«Individualmente senti-me muito bem, nos últimos 20 minutos do jogo, mas no colectivo ficámos todos tristes porque perdemos pontos. Espero, contudo, melhorar cada vez mais, assentar o meu estilo de jogo para ajudar cada vez mais o clube», declarou.

David Luiz, fará ao que tudo indica uma dupla de centrais com o internacional inglês, John Terry, capitão dos «blues». O jogador brasileiro, porém, já demonstrou ao serviço dos encarnados a sua polivalência, actuando, algumas vezes, no corredor esquerdo da defesa.

«O Chelsea tem um leque muito vasto de bons defesas, que querem ajudar e que constituem uma opção válida para o grupo, cabe agora ao treinador decidir quem joga. Penso que toda a gente admira o John Terry, eu não sou excepção, é um grande jogador que já ganhou muito ao serviço do clube e sinto que posso aprender muito com ele. Aprender e estar próximo dos melhores é uma grande oportunidade e um prazer», rematou.

Spurred by the news he will make his full debut on Monday, David Luiz feels he is settling well to life in England.

The 23-year-old defender sampled 20 minutes of Premier League football at Stamford Bridge last weekend, and is looking forward to building on that over the coming weeks and months.

'I am very happy here at Chelsea, settling well, everyone made me welcome and I am looking forward to being a player for Chelsea,' he said on Friday.

'Every player likes to play, be part of the team and during my career I have been tried in different positions. I am just happy I can help regardless of which position it is. I want to learn the philosophy about the club, learn how the club likes to go forward, and work with the aim to become a better player.'

His first experience of playing for Chelsea was somewhat overshadowed by the presence of Fernando Torres playing against his former side Liverpool, but Luiz does not mind being regarded as a more low-key acquisition.

'Usually the strikers get the spotlight because they are the ones that bring the joy and the goals but I am just happy to be here to help Chelsea conquer all their aims and be successful in my new career here.

'Individually I felt very well for the last 20 minutes of the game but as a group we felt down because Chelsea lost the match, but I hope to improve on those 20 minutes and become settled.'

The Brazilian will be expected to partner John Terry in central defence at Craven Cottage on Monday, though he could also occupy either wide defensive slot at the expense of Ashley Cole, Branislav Ivanovic or Jose Bosingwa, and he acknowledges the strength of squad he has joined.

'Chelsea has a wide choice of good defenders that all want to be involved. It is good to have the choice and it is down to the coach to decide his best partnership for the games.

'Football in general admires John Terry, it is not just me. He is a great player that has won a lot and I hope I can learn a lot and have the same success he has had over a number of years,' he said, before explaining what it is like to face Torres, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka in training.

'It is easier [for me] because now they are alongside me,' he smiled.' I had a privilege to play against Fernando when I was at Benfica. I can only learn from the best and it is a great pleasure to train alongside great players.'

ANCELOTTI: LUIZ GETS THE NOD

Having officially unveiled his new defender, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed David Luiz will start at Fulham on Monday.

The versatile defender made his debut against Liverpool last weekend as a late substitute, and after coming through Brazil's friendly against France on Wednesday night, will be in from the beginning at Craven Cottage, though Ancelotti admitted he was not yet sure where in the back four it would be.

'He will start on Monday. I don't know, he has a lot of opportunity to play, he is a lucky player!' said the manager.

'David Luiz is a very good defender because he has the ability and skills to play in all the positions in the back four, centre-back, left-back, he never played right-back but he has the quality to, he is Brazilian and so obviously has very good technique and he can help us to build our play better from the back.

'I think he will be one of the best defenders in the world in the future. He is young but has fantastic experience, he played in Benfica and the Champions League.We are upset because he cannot play in the Champions League for us but he can show his quality in the Premier League and FA Cup.

'With David Luiz we can have more rotation and maintain freshness in the other defenders. Now we have a lot of opportunity to choose players, give someone a rest and keep every defender fit for the rest of the season. When a good player with a lot of skills improves the squad everyone is happy, in the top teams there is competition to play, and this is normal and a good motivation for everyone.'

Barring Alex, Ancelotti has a full complement of defenders to pick from, though he admits Jose Bosingwa could be a doubt for Monday's west London derby.

'The players came back [from international duty] yesterday, everything is okay, just Bosingwa has a little problem but I hope he recovers for Monday's game,' Ancelotti said. 'The other players are in good condition, some players played 90 minutes but we have time to prepare the team for the Fulham game.

'Alex is recovering, he is doing individual treatment, I don't know if he will be fit for the Champions League game but maybe when we play at home with Copenhagen he will be ready.'

With a similar squad to pick from as that which was beaten by Liverpool last weekend, Ancelotti says he is likely to press on with the two-up-front formation that combined Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba for the first time.

He believes the timing of Monday's game allows enough opportunity to practice with the new system.

'We have to use the time that we have. Obviously we have to try, we will try this week because we have time and step by step we are trying to find the right solution to put them together,' he explained.

'My aim as a coach is to try to find the better solution with the players we have in the squad. I think Drogba and Torres are fantastic strikers and we have to try everything to put them together to play.

'There is not a sacrifice, if sometimes I choose one player or another, because in the future we will have very important games and I think rotation of the players will be very important. I want to use that in the next games because every game is very important. We have important aims to reach in the future and maybe sometimes some players need to rest to recover.

'It is difficult to think we can come back to fight for the title. It is better to think game by game in the Premier League. It is difficult to close the gap, we have to be honest, but the most important step now is to reach fourth place in the table and we have to fight with the other teams.

'Now we have to look forward and prepare well the next game against Fulham and maintain our confidence.'

O central brasileiro David Luiz foi esta sexta-feira oficialmente apresentado como reforço do Chelsea e viu o treinador Carlo Ancelotti confirmar que será titular na próxima segunda-feira frente ao Fulham.

«Vai ser titular na segunda-feira», confirmou Ancelotti, que não poupou nos elogios ao antigo jogador do Benfica:
«É uma grande defesa porque tem habilidade e capacidade para jogar em todas as posições na defesa. Nunca jogou a defesa-direito mas tem qualidade para o fazer. É brasileiro e, por isso, muito bom tecnicamente. Pode ajudar-nos a construir melhor o nosso jogo a partir da defesa.»

O treinador italiano não hesitou em afirmar que David Luiz será «um dos melhores defesas do Mundo». «É jovem mas com muita experiência. Jogou no Benfica, na Liga dos Campeões. É uma baixa importante porque não pode jogar conosco na Champions esta época mas pode jogar na Liga e na Taça. Com ele, podemos conferir maior rotatividade à equipa.»

Já o português Bosingwa está em dúvida: «Tem um pequeno problema mas espero que recupere a tempo do jogo de segunda-feira.»

Bosingwa: «David Luiz pode dar algo de diferente ao Chelsea»
Lateral português contente com a chegada do brasileiro num mercado de «loucos»
José Bosingwa considera que a investida do Chelsea no mercado de Janeiro, com as contratações de David Luiz e Fernando Torres, foi «uma loucura», mas vê com bons olhos a chegada de reforços de qualidade a Stamford Bridge. Numa entrevista ao site oficial do clube, o internacional português não poupa elogios ao central brasileiro.

«Estive a acompanhar o fecho do mercado como toda a gente. Estive a acompanhar as últimas decisões através da internet no hotel onde estávamos e foi de loucos, mas bom para nós», destacou. Torres dispensa comentários, apesar de ter sido a contratação mais badalada, até porque ia estrear-se com a camisola «blue» frente ao Liverpool, mas Bosingwa estava mais interessado em David Luiz que também se estreou, como suplente, na derrota diante do clube de Anfield (0-1).

«Sempre que posso, vejo jogos da liga portuguesa, por isso já tinha visto o David Luiz jogar muitas vezes e sei que é bom jogador. Penso que vai dar-se bem no Chelsea e pode dar algo diferente à equipa. Foi uma boa contratação para nós. É um jogador rápido e também é forte», destacou. O lateral também não poupou elogios a Ramires, outro jogador que a equipa londrina foi «pescar» à Luz no início da época. «Continua a ser um jogador novo para nós. Ele joga sobre a direita, perto de mim e isso é bom porque falamos a mesma língua e a comunicação é melhor. Fica mais fácil para mim e para ele», referiu.

O Chelsea estava em plena recuperação, com seis vitórias consecutivas, com o regresso de Bosingwa à equipa, mas a derrota diante do Liverpool foi um forte revés. «Para mim, depois de um jogo como esse é difícil dormir, a adrenalina continua no corpo. Quando se ganha é mais fácil, a viagem corre melhor e quando chegas a casa estás mais descansado. Se perdeste, o jogo não te sai da cabeça», comentou.

O próprio Bosingwa acaba por ser um reforço para Ancelotti depois de uma temporada em que praticamente não foi opção devido à lesão no joelho que também o afastou do Campeonato do Mundo. «No final da temporada passada estava contente porque a equipa ganhou dois troféus (Taça da Liga e Taça de Inglaterra), mas também estava triste por não ter ajudado a minha equipa, não joguei. Não fiz o meu trabalho e foi difícil por causa disso. Agora já estou a fazer o que gosto. O futebol é a minha vida e estou contente», contou ainda.
